Lateral Moves
So many great candidates don’t get the job they go for because they don’t fully understand what’s expected from them. It may be many years since you last had an interview and things have changed so much.
At Careers In Blue, we will go through the process with you, help you with your Application Form and to plan for your Interview. We explain the Competency Values Framework (CVF) in simple terms and relate it to the role you are applying for.

Expert Coaching to help get you the job you deserve
We will help you build your evidence portfolio to ensure you can demonstrate the necessary skills you have, questions you may face, how to answer them and how you will be scored against the CVF. Being fully prepared will ensure you are confident and ready for anything they may throw at you!
Our Application Forms and Structured Interview Workbook is your complete guide. Back it up with a Structured Interview Course and your chances of success increase. The first part of the session will help you understand what skills a question is asking you to demonstrate and you will be able to structure your response to provide valuable evidence against the Competency Values Framework (CVF).
The second part of the session will be a slow time Mock Interview with the option of more if you feel it necessary. It’s an experience as near as you can get to the real thing, with constructive feedback, giving tips on how to improve – you can’t be any better prepared!
For those of you who have an understanding of the process but may not have had an interview for some time, we also offer Mock Interviews. You will get constructive feedback on your performance, prior to the real thing, giving you as near to real interview experience as you can get, with tips on how to improve – couple either with our Application Forms and Structured Interviews Workbook and you can’t be any better prepared!

Application Forms and Structured Interviews Guide and Workbook
This is our complete guide to Competency Based Applications and Interviews. It is ideal for anyone applying for a police staff role, a police lateral move or any application form or interview that asks for competency based information. It is a simplistic, practical guide and workbook which covers:
- Information about both processes
- Preparing evidence for both processes
- Structuring your answers
- Useful additional preparation
Lateral Moves Interview Training Course
For those of you already employed by a police force as an officer or police staff and are applying for a lateral move, this is for you. This bespoke training, just for you, over a 3 hour session, will lead you through the process, discuss what skills you are likely to be assessed against, leading to a mock interview in the second part of the session with constructive honest feedback on areas to address before the real thing.
Our Structured Interview Course, will guide you how to plan, understand what you are being asked to demonstrate and how to construct your answers against the Competency Value Framework.
The Training Course runs over a 3 hour session and will gradually build on your knowledge base, covering varying subjects you will most likely be questioned about. We will explain what is involved in a Structured Interview, discuss the Competency Value Framework and how you can be fully prepared, leading to interview questions and a structured way to answer them.
There will also be practical advice on how to conduct yourself, looking the part and giving you that inner confidence to help you achieve.
Couple it with our Application Forms and Structured Interview Workbook and you can’t be any better prepared!

One to One Structured Mock Interview
For those of you who may have done any of our courses, or even if you are new to Careers In Blue and feel you have prepared yourself sufficiently, but would like the opportunity of a mock interview, this is ideal for you!
Although we call it a ‘One to One’ Mock Interview, there will in fact be two trainers on hand to make your mock interview as lifelike as it can be. If you choose to have further interviews, different question sets will be used.
Honest and constructive feedback on your current performance will be given, with advice and guidance on areas where you could look to improve.
The opportunity to have a mock interview, ahead of the real thing, is the best preparation you can do.
Rather than worrying about what you might face, you will be instilled with confidence and enthusiasm, ready to face what lies ahead on your policing journey.

Application Form Checking
It’s so important to get this right – how many people do you think will apply? Many forces are inundated with applications and will sift applications with no feedback – make sure yours is the best you can submit! This may be the only time this year that your chosen force advertises for your desired entry level. It’s so important to ensure you get on the first rung of that police recruitment ladder – give yourself the optimum chance of success and use us to advise and guide you.
We offer the chance for you to have peace of mind that your application form is the best you can possibly submit and get you to that next stage of the Online Assessment Centre. We have direct experience of scoring application forms against the police Competency Value Framework (CVF) and providing feedback to successful or unsuccessful candidates.
We offer a quick turnaround, guaranteed of within 24/ 48 hours ( excluding weekends and Bank Holidays) of receiving your submission.
For £75, whether it’s an online application or paper based, we will look it over for you. If you are asked any questions around experience you have or what motivates you to want to be a police officer, we will advise
• if your current answers are sufficient
• you need to add or evidence further any of your answers
• recheck it again for you before submission
• advise on current recruitment processes for your chosen force

What our customers say about us
5* Google Review dated March 2025
Chris and Jan from Careers in Blue are outstanding professionals who guide you through the police recruitment process with clarity, integrity, and structure. Their approach is professional - they don’t just give you information, they ensure you truly understand it.
They comprehensively explain the core values and competencies of a police officer. Their ability to break these down with real examples means you don’t waste time repeating questions or searching for answers that have already been covered by someone. Instead, you are guided through an engaging and thought-provoking journey where these principles are explored, analyzed, and truly understood.
Importantly, they uphold the highest ethical standards. Their integrity as former police officers means they will never disclose actual questions or give you pre-prepared answers - and that’s exactly what makes their strategy so effective. They stimulate your critical thinking, ensuring that by the time you reach the National Sift, Online Assessment Centre, and Final Interview, you are equipped with a genuine understanding of policing values rather than rehearsed responses and cliches.
What makes their approach even more valuable is how well they break down and explain the entire recruitment process. They will direct you to force's web resources, initiatives, and strategies that are publicly available so you can conduct your research - your own initiative is the most vital part of the process. If you are naturally curious and investigative, their guidance will help you get to the core of what makes a successful candidate. You won’t be spoon-fed answers - instead, they challenge your thinking so you can develop the skills and mindset required for success. Their strategy works. They helped me from the ground up, even teaching me about the importance of dress code and body language - things I had never seen as crucial but now recognize as essential. Their Start to Finish Workbook was a game-changer in my initial preparation. The free weekly chat sessions and "Tip of the Week" providing constant support and clarification throughout the process.
Unlike other consultants (I won’t mention names out of ethical considerations), Chris and Jan don’t just train you to pass the whole recruitment - they prepare you to embody the qualities of a police officer. Their method is structured, insightful, and based on real policing values. If you are serious about this career and want to be fully prepared, confident, and informed, Careers in Blue is brilliant team to trust to.

My university provided us with the careers in blue work books and paid Chris and Jan to come in for a few sessions regarding the police recruitment process.
I had personally struggled with the recruitment assessments and had failed both parts previously, however, after having 1 to 1 sessions over teams with Chris and Jan, as well as completing some SIFT practice questions and mock interview questions, I was able to pass with flying colours!
I would highly recommend their service to anyone and would go as far as to say that their input was paramount to me passing my recruitment process.

Thanks to Jan and Chris for helping me crush every single aspect of the application process.
I used them for all three tests up to and including the senior interview and passed every stage with ease.
I can undoubtedly say that without their involvement and detailed prep then it is highly doubtful that I would have scored as highly as I did.
They are patient and kind and truly invested in your success.
I’d also recommend that you look at their book as well as that is a great supplement to the whole process.
Highly highly recommended!
