How can you balance job interviews in your favour? Careers In Blue will show you how to tip the scales in your direction and give you the best chance of achieving success and get the job you’ve worked so hard to get.

It’s all about preparation

So your application form has done the job – it’s got you a foot in the door and you’ve been told you’ve been shortlisted for an interview. What do you do next? It’s time to start prepping for that so important ‘discussion.’

It’s important to find out as much as you can – whether it’s about the process you’ll face or the company you’ve applied to. you’ll need to do your research.

As a structured assessors for many years, we know how important it is to see that the interviewee in front of you has done their homework. The ones who perhaps, think they will just get the job, sometimes are the worst prepared – and it’s obvious! We’ve seen it many times. Those who work in a place and maybe even know their interviewers, think they will automatically be successful. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always work out.

How do I balance the scales in my favour?

Do your research. Find out as much as you can about the process and interview you will face. How can you do that? Speak to anyone you know that works for the company. See what advice they can give you, especially if they’ve recently joined. Pick their brains – what do they like about work? Do they feel supported? Hopefully they do and tell you it’s a good company to work for. Check their website, find out as much as you can about the company via open source information. Think about the kind of questions you’ll be asked and how you would answer them.
