Career Coach – Jan Scrutton
Jan has over 30 years police officer experience in various roles, ranks and Specialist National Units.

Jan has been involved in various Interview Selection processes for over 26 years. She was a police Structured Assessor and was involved in many Recruitment and Selection Process.
She has always been passionate about getting the right people for the right roles and enjoyed the opportunity on many occasions to interview new police recruits, special constables, as well as external applicants for police staff roles and lateral moves.
Careers In Blue gives her the opportunity to continue to help others achieve in their chosen career, ensuring that they thoroughly understand the role they have applied for and have prepared to the best of their ability giving them that ‘edge’ over other applicants.
Career Coach – Chris Farrell
Chris has over 30 years policing experience and have worked in a variety of ranks and roles.
She was a qualified Police Detective Sgt, PIP Level 2 for the last 10 years of her career, specialising in Counter Terrorism Policing and National Forensic Management.

When she retired, her enthusiasm for the police continued and gained for a Police Staff role in a specialist unit.
Throughout her career, she was seen as the ‘Go To’ person by colleagues for advice and guidance appertaining to application and interview preparation.
Careers In Blue enables Chris to continue to impart her police skills and knowledge to new applicants or those already in the police to gain specialist roles
Promotion and Progression Lead – D/C/Inspector Katie Allen
Katie is a Detective Chief Inspector responsible for Crime. Her operational experience spans Response, Neighbourhood Policing, Sex Offender Management, Integrated Offender Management, and the Online Child Abuse Investigation Team, alongside roles as a Public Order Commander at major events.

She is a College of Policing accredited mentor, coach, and qualified assessor. Katie has supported many officers through promotion processes, internal boards, and national schemes like Direct Entry and Fast Track. She regularly assess interviews and promotions up to Inspector rank and have helped numerous colleagues achieve successful career progression.
Mentoring is something Katie is truly passionate about. She knows firsthand how valuable it is to have support from someone who understands the unique challenges of policing. She joined Careers in Blue to share that support more widely – helping others thrive in a career she loves and believes in deeply.
Career Coach – Alan Watterson
Alan has over 30 years’ experience as Police Staff, all of it within Contact Management. For the past 20 years, he have worked as a specialist Contact Management Training Officer, developing extensive expertise in the selection, recruitment, training, and professional development of staff. He has also supported the recruitment of Police Officers and taken part in processes for staff seeking lateral moves or promotion within the Police Service.

Alan leads on our National Sift Masterclass and the Contact Centre Workshop, sharing his knowledge and experience with new applicants. Throughout my career, He is passionate about developing individuals to reach their potential, ensuring they understand the needs of our communities and are able to identify and respond effectively to risk and vulnerability.
His aim is to help candidates understand what is expected of them and to present themselves confidently and professionally at every stage of the process.
Vetting Advisor – Kieran O’Mahoney
Kieran has 47 years’ experience within policing, serving both as a police officer and as a senior police staff member.
As a police officer, he specialised in investigations and held supervisory roles up to the rank of Temporary Superintendent. During his time in Professional Standards, he investigated alleged breaches of the Standards of Professional Behaviour, with extensive involvement in vetting, conduct matters, and organisational risk.
Following his retirement from frontline policing, he became a Senior Manager within Police Legal Services, responsible for managing civil claims. This role continued to involve close working with professional standards, vetting processes, and staff risk management.

Kieran has significant experience in police recruitment and selection processes, both internal and external. His experience in Professional Standards and Civil Litigation makes him the ideal person to assist with vetting enquiries and appeals.
