Who Is This For
This service is suitable if you:
• Have received a police vetting refusal
• Have concerns about your vetting history
• Are unsure whether to submit a vetting appeal
• Want experienced, honest advice before taking your next step
About Kieran O’Mahoney
Kieran is a former police officer with extensive experience in investigations, professional standards, and vetting-related matters.
He served in supervisory roles up to the rank of Temporary Superintendent and worked as a Senior Investigating Officer within the Professional Standards Department, investigating alleged breaches of the Standards of Professional Behaviour, Police Conduct Regulations, and vetting concerns.
Following retirement from frontline policing, Kieran became a Senior Manager within a Police Legal Services Department, responsible for managing civil claims linked to professional standards, vetting, and staff risk management.
Flexible, focused support
Kieran can support you in two ways, depending on your situation.
Initial Vetting Advice
If you have a vetting concern before submitting your information at the vetting stage, the Initial Vetting Advice allows you to discuss your circumstances with Kieran.
This session focuses on:
• The vetting issues you are concerned about
• The likely strengths and risks of proceeding
• Summary of conversation and practical guidance on next steps
This service is designed to discuss concern before the submission of vetting forms.
Vetting Appeal Review
If you decide to proceed with a vetting appeal, or have previously had vetting refused, Kieran can initially advise and if needed, review your drafted appeal and provide feedback.
This includes:
• Reviewing your appeal document
• Identifying areas that require clarification, strengths and weaknesses
• Suggesting additions or refinements where appropriate
• Ensuring the appeal remains focused and proportionate
This service does not write the appeal for you, but helps you strengthen what you have prepared.
